We return from ADELATAM 2026 with a strengthened conviction: AI is not the future of electricity distribution — it is already the operational present.

During our panel, “From Reactive to Predictive: AI & Advanced Analytics for Power Networks,” we shared how the frenach DSO, Europe’s largest electricity distributor, is already deploying AI at scale:

✅ Predictive maintenance — Failure prediction with >99% reliability, up to 3 weeks in advance
✅ Climate event response — Anticipating impacts to efficiently mobilize resources

We also presented the four key pillars every distribution utility should consider before scaling AI:

2️⃣ Responsible solutions aligned with company values

Developing MV Live-Line Work capabilities: our expertise supporting Ethiopian Electric Utility

At EDF International Networks, we support utilities in structuring and deploying live-line work capabilities by combining operational excellence, strong safety standards, and sustainable knowledge transfer. In Ethiopia, we are leveraging this expertise with Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) to develop MV live-line work practices on 15 kV and 33 kV networks, in line with international best practices.

This first mission enabled us to set the key foundations:
🔹 assessing existing network capabilities,
🔹 defining a progressive deployment strategy for distance methods,
🔹 strengthening safety frameworks and operational procedures,
and preparing future organizational and equipment needs.
 
The project is designed as a long-term capability-building journey, enriched by European feedback and expertise. A highly engaging collaboration, driven by the strong commitment of EEU teams toward safer and more reliable network operations.
